Journey Through Bethlehem

About four summers ago, our Worship Arts staff was meeting to figure out something new for our church to do for Christmas. We had initially thought about finding a huge (and I mean HUGE) tree to place in front of the building and to have a “West Cobb Lighting of the Great (and I mean GREAT…) Tree” with lots of music and hot chocolate and other fun stuff. However, when we discovered that huge, great trees weren’t all that easy to come by, we started re-thinking things. One person remembered a Bethlehem Village walk-through event that had been meaningful to them. Another person really enjoyed live Nativity scenes, and still another one thought that Christmas musicals were the best part of December in church. We started brainstorming again and eventually came up with “Journey Through Bethlehem.”

When you come to “Journey” you’ll enter through the city gates and be met by Roman soldiers, the town blacksmith and other local citizens and guests. You’ll need to register for the census (that’s why we’re here, right?) and have a cup of hot chocolate or cider before you pay your tax to Caesar. Take your time and browse through the village. The live music will begin at 6:45, but you’re welcome to continue exploring since the soldiers won’t close down the shops for another half hour or so. At 7:15 we’ll re-tell the Christmas story with the help of a narrator, Mary, Joseph, shepherds, Wise Men and their escorts and, of course, Jesus. We hope you enjoy your stay with us and that you’ll possibly discover (or re-discover) the Christ of Christmas as you Journey Through Bethlehem at Burnt Hickory!

A Time to Be Thankful

After almost five and a half months, our new website is LIVE! The excitement is almost overwhelming. It is clean and fresh, modern and captivating. A few people in the office have been involved for the entire time. We are so thankful for the multitude of hours that Marty, Theresa and Beth have invested over this process. Every ministry has been involved in getting their area of the website filled with relevant information. Thank you so much to the ministry assistants and associates who have put hours of their time into their ministry areas. As a staff, we hope that this new website will provide the tool to keep our church body and the community as a whole informed about what is going on in the body of Christ known as Burnt Hickory.

It’s also a great time to look at this past year and realize how very much God has blessed us, individually and corporately. I am personally thankful for my salvation, my husband and family, my church, my friends, my health, the list could go on and on. Take a few minutes to remember everything that God has blessed you with. Be thankful for the little things. We are not promised a smooth path, but we are promised that He will always be with us.

Appreciating Our Pastors Part 2

October has been designated as Pastor Appreciation Month, and we want to say “thank you” for everything that all eight of our pastors do to further the Kingdom of Christ.

Monday, October 31st, is our annual PumpkinFest, a free family fun evening from 6:00-7:30. This is a great time to invite your friends and neighbors who might not be comfortable coming to a church service for the first time but will be glad to come to a family activity that is held on the front lawn of the church facility. Let’s all commit to invite at least one other family to come with us!

Appreciating Our Pastors

October is Pastor Appreciation Month. Joining with Pastor Mike are another seven ordained pastors who serve on our staff. Please take a moment to acknowledge them in a special way this month!

Remember that this Sunday evening is Music on the Lawn at 5:00. The weather forecast is great, so plan now to bring your lawn chair, picnic supper and jacket and enjoy music from all our choirs. See you there!

Welcome to Burnt Hickory!

Fall at Burnt Hickory is always exciting. A new church year. New budget. New faces every week. October is no exception.

Sunday evening, October 23 at 5:00, join us for our annual Music on the Lawn. This will be a great time on the church front lawn with music from our preschoolers, children, students and adults. Bring a picnic and your lawn chair and enjoy!

PumpkinFest is always a favorite hit for our entire community. October 31 from 6:00-7:30pm, come join us for our Halloween alternative with games, food, fun and, of course, CANDY!
